Maple Scones

(Carlotta's food posts always inspire me, so I thought I'd do one myself.)
I love cooking, and I especially love baking sweet, buttery yumminess.
My friend and I made these Maple Oat Nut Scones tonight - an imitation of Starbucks' scones.
We ate them with hot chocolate and they were quite delicious if I do say so myself. :)

Scones:
1 cup oats
1 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
2/3 cup coarsely chopped pecans
2 tablespoons maple syrup
2 1/2 tablespoons cold butter (cut into small pieces)
1 egg
1/2 cup half-and-half or cream
3/4 teaspoon maple extract

Maple Glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon maple extract
4-5 teaspoons water

Directions:
-Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
-Mix together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and pecans.
-Add maple syrup and butter, mix well.
-In a separate bowl, beat together egg, cream, and maple extract.
-Add egg mixture to flour mixture, mix well.
-Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead, then pat dough into an 8-10 inch circle and cut into 8 wedges.
-Place wedges on a greased baking sheet, and bake at 425 for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.
-Once baked, transfer scones to a wire rack to cool for a few minutes.
-To make the maple glaze, combine powdered sugar, maple extract, and water. Add more or less water, according to the consistency you want your glaze to be (I like mine to be thicker, so I don't put in much water). Spread lots of glaze on each scone, then wait for it to harden before serving.

Enjoy!
